A collaboration connecting Kagoshima and Hatagaya

Sankaku Beer Works is a craft brewery based in Kawanabe, in southwestern Kagoshima Prefecture. The brewery uses water from Shimizu Spring, recognized as one of Japan’s 100 Notable Water Sources. Its brewing facility is located at TANOKAMI STATION, a former school repurposed as a community complex, where the brewery produces beers inspired by local water and food culture.

“Volcanic Passion” was created through a collaboration between Sankaku Beer Works and BLUE LUG, a bicycle shop based in Tokyo’s Hatagaya district. The beer reflects the relationship between the two teams while bringing together Kagoshima’s character and their shared passion for making things.

Passion fruit, gentle bitterness, and bright acidity

Passion fruit is used to give the beer a distinctly tropical profile. Soft bitterness from Hallertau hops is layered with a refreshing hop aroma, creating a juicy, lively beer with fresh acidity. Early tasting impressions described it as aromatic and easy-drinking, with restrained bitterness and a clean finish.

The name “Volcanic Passion” combines the volcanic image associated with Kagoshima and the passion behind the collaboration. Its tropical fruit character and light palate should make it a natural match for food, as well as a refreshing choice on a warm day.

Debuted at Kagoshima Unique 2026

The beer was first presented at Kagoshima Unique 2026, an event held at LUG HATAGAYA that brought together food businesses and creators connected to Kagoshima. Alongside the collaboration beer, Sankaku Beer Works served several of its original beers.

The daytime program featured Kagoshima ramen, while the evening program included seafood and other dishes. The event offered an opportunity to experience Kagoshima’s food culture alongside craft beer, with BLUE LUG also serving an original cocktail using “Volcanic Passion.”

Born from Kagoshima spring water, tropical fruit, and a cross-regional relationship, “Volcanic Passion” represents a new direction for Sankaku Beer Works’ collaborations.
