Shiga Kogen Beer releases third-edition 'Ikkyo Ryotoku' aged in Ichiro's Malt casks
Shiga Kogen Beer, from Tamamura Honten in Yamanouchi, Nagano, has released 'Ikkyo Ryotoku,' a special barrel-aged version of its collaboration beer with Brasserie Dieu du Ciel! The 330 ml beer comes in at 14.5% ABV and was limited to 2,858 bottles.
Tamamura Honten, the maker of Shiga Kogen Beer in Yamanouchi, Nagano, released a limited beer called "Ikkyo Ryotoku 330 ml." It is a special version of "Ikkyo Nitori," a collaboration beer first created with the Canadian brewery Brasserie Dieu du Ciel!, then matured in Ichiro's Malt barrels.
The release is billed as "Ikkyo Ryotoku #3" and marks its third appearance after a four-year gap. The project began when the brewery brewed "Ikkyo Nitori" for another barrel-aging project and filled freshly arrived casks with it. The first release spent about two months in barrel, while this edition was left in cask much longer after the base beer was brewed in February 2020.
The style is listed as barrel-aged imperial dark saison. At 14.5% ABV and 89 IBU, it is the strongest version yet. The brewery describes a layered profile of barrel character, hops, roast, and saison-derived fruitiness, with notes reminiscent of raisins, prunes, bananas, and even a brandy-like impression. Despite the richness, the beer is said to keep the dry structure typical of saison.
The beer was sold in 330 ml bottles for 1,100 yen including tax, with a limited run of 2,858 bottles. It is already marked sold out on the online store. For Shiga Kogen Beer, a long-running label from Tamamura Honten, the release reflects the brewery's ongoing interest in barrel aging and collaborative brewing.
