SanktGallen Reports Arrival of First 2026 “Long Cat Mug” Shipment
SanktGallen Brewery has announced on Instagram that the first shipment of its popular 2026 “Long Cat Mugs” has arrived. The event-only glasses will be used at the Atsugi and Yokohama Oktoberfests, where visitors can enjoy the brewery’s ale in a playful cat-inspired vessel.
SanktGallen Brewery in Atsugi, Kanagawa, has reported the arrival of the first shipment of its 2026 “Long Cat Mugs.” The shipment marks an important step in preparations for the brewery’s autumn beer events.
The Long Cat Mug is an event-only glass designed to look like a cat being lifted by its sides. Its elongated shape and relaxed cat illustration create the impression of holding a cat while enjoying a beer. For 2026, SanktGallen prepared 20,000 mugs—twice as many as the previous year.
The mugs are scheduled to be used at Atsugi Oktoberfest 2026, held at Atsugi Central Park from September 18 to 27, and Yokohama Oktoberfest 2026, held at Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse from September 18 to October 4. Both venues use a glass-deposit system: visitors pay a deposit when receiving the mug and get it back when the glass is returned. The mugs are intended for use at the events rather than for taking home.
Cats have a special connection to SanktGallen. The brewery once rescued a black cat from a drainage channel beside its factory, and cats have since appeared on its beer labels and in related projects. The concept also recalls the traditional role of brewery cats, which historically helped protect malt from pests.
SanktGallen began brewing in the United States before small-scale brewing was legalized in Japan, helping pave the way for the country’s craft beer movement. The brewery has maintained an ale-focused approach since its founding, emphasizing malt depth and aroma. Its lineup includes Golden Ale, Pale Ale, Shonan Gold and other seasonal and fruit-infused beers.
With the first shipment now in Japan, preparations for the autumn festivals are moving forward. Visitors should check SanktGallen’s official website and social media for the latest information on serving methods and availability before attending.
