Sankt Gallen Brewery in Atsugi, Kanagawa Prefecture, has tapped two new beers at its directly operated shop, Sankt Gallen Taproom, right by the north exit of Hon-Atsugi Station. Sankt Gallen is the original craft beer pioneer, having carried out small-scale brewing in the United States even before local beer was legalized in Japan. At its taproom, it offers up to 20 draft beers shipped directly from the brewery.

The newly introduced beers are a HAZY IPA and a stout that make distinctive use of the hop Green Bullet. According to the taproom's description, the HAZY IPA is characterized by a juicy, citrus-like aroma derived from Green Bullet, while the stout has a contrasting finish with a sweet berry-like flavor.

Both were apparently well received at the Keyaki Hiroba Spring Beer Festival. It is interesting that, while centered on a single hop, they are shaped into two different expressions by changing how the aroma is brought out, and a side-by-side tasting reveals Sankt Gallen's skill in differentiating its beers.

As a directly operated shop that always keeps several of its own brewed beers on hand, the taproom is notable for offering a wide range from regular lineup beers to seasonal limited releases. These two new beers are also suited to beer lovers who want to carefully compare the hop differences and the contrast between dark and pale styles, all while tasting them fresh on site in Atsugi.
