Takamatsu Brewpub

Torikago/Shirosuzume in Taga-cho, Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture, is a brewpub operating in a former dispensing pharmacy along a sightseeing street. In the attached beer room, you can enjoy small pours of up to five kinds of craft beer, including its own house-brewed products, and it also offers takeout of bottled and canned beers from Japan and abroad.

One of this shop's defining features is that while it is a specialty store for people who know a lot about beer, it also recommends beers while listening to the drinker's preferences and mood. The only beer poured from a swing faucet is Sapporo Draft Beer Black Label, and apart from the craft beers, it also offers a proper standard pour. It is an easy place to use both as an entry point into beer and as a place to compare different styles.

Its house-brewed lineup includes "Chisoe #004", a beer leaning toward dark beer; "Sparrow Lager #004", a brisk Helles; "Yukibori", a freestyle lager made with apple; "Hagi ni Usagi", characterized by fruity aroma and gentle bitterness; and "Kurage no Hone", which has notes of bitter chocolate and citrus. The range of aroma, bitterness, and body is distinct, making it easy to choose according to your mood that day.

The way to drink here is simple, but the offerings are quite broad. It feels natural to face a glass one by one at the counter, or to take cans and bottles home and enjoy them slowly there, and it is a place worth keeping in mind if you are looking for craft beer in Kagawa. Torikago/Shirosuzume seems best remembered as a brewpub that carefully serves "a good drink at that moment" rather than chasing flashiness.
