OUR BREWING Releases Limited Amber Lager Made with Awara Sweet Potatoes
Fukui-based OUR BREWING has announced media coverage of its Tomitsu Kintoki Amber Lager, a collaborative craft beer made with Awara City’s specialty sweet potatoes. Developed with a local liquor retailer and farmer, the beer is a limited release of approximately 1,700 cans and was featured on Fukui Television and FBC Fukui Broadcasting.
Turning imperfect sweet potatoes into beer
Fukui-based craft brewery OUR BREWING has announced that its Tomitsu Kintoki Amber Lager was featured in news reports on Fukui Television and FBC Fukui Broadcasting. The beer uses Tomitsu Kintoki, a specialty sweet potato from Awara City, Fukui Prefecture.
The project was developed jointly by three local partners: liquor retailer Liquor World Hana, farmer Field Works, and OUR BREWING. The sweet potatoes include specimens that are difficult to sell through ordinary channels because of peeled skin or irregular shapes. By using them in a craft beer, the collaboration gives local produce a new role while reducing food loss.
Rich malt character with a clean finish
As its name suggests, the beer is an amber lager. Although sweet potatoes are naturally rich in sugar, much of that sugar is consumed during fermentation, so the finished beer is not overly sweet. Instead, it combines a deep, rounded body with a clean finish, followed by the sweet aroma of Tomitsu Kintoki.
OUR BREWING recommends pairing the beer with local autumn dishes, including simmered Kamisho satoimo taro and grilled fish such as Pacific saury. These pairings highlight the beer’s food-friendly character while bringing together the flavors of Fukui’s harvest season.
The release is limited to approximately 1,700 cans. It is available at Liquor World Hana stores, selected roadside stations in Fukui Prefecture, and through the brewery’s online shop.
A brewery connecting people through local beer
OUR BREWING is a Fukui-born craft beer brand built around the idea that beer brings neighbors together. Its brewery and taproom in central Fukui feature a 1,000-liter brewing system, where the team produces beers that showcase both modern brewing techniques and ingredients from the region.
This amber lager reflects that approach: a collaboration among local businesses that adds value to a regional crop and creates a beer designed for the dining table. For beer lovers who find it, the brewery suggests enjoying it alongside Fukui’s seasonal specialties.
