In time for the 10th anniversary of the Kumamoto earthquake, Hideji Beer in Nobeoka City, Miyazaki Prefecture, released a craft beer themed around recovery, "HOPe STEP JUMP! (Hop, Step, Jump) Kumamoto Ale," and promoted it to Governor Kimura at the Kumamoto Prefectural Office on April 8.

This product is part of a project led in collaboration with breweries across Kyushu, including Hideji Beer, under the planning and supervision of Kumamoto Nichinichi Shimbun. The aim is to keep the memories of the disaster from fading and to help raise disaster preparedness awareness, and part of the sales will be donated for Kumamoto's regional revitalization.

Features of the Beer

According to the official website, the recipe uses spring water from the Shioi water source in Mashiki, Kumamoto Prefecture, as well as Cascade hops and rice from Minami Aso. In addition, two hop varieties, Luminosa and Superdelic, are blended to evoke a bright future beyond the disaster.

The style is American Pale Ale. It balances a gentle malt richness with hop-derived tropical aromas, making it approachable even for people who are not used to craft beer. With an alcohol content of 5% and a 350 ml serving size, it is designed to pair easily with food.

About Hideji Beer

Hideji Beer is a brewery based in Nobeoka, Miyazaki, known for turning local ingredients and stories into beer. It is also active in brewing that makes use of Kyushu agricultural products and local resources, and has built a strong reputation for products that reflect the character of the land. This "HOPe STEP JUMP!" release is another example of that approach.

One of the defining features of this product is how it carries memories of Kumamoto's recovery in a form that drinkers can naturally take in. Rather than relying on flashy presentation, it is the kind of limited-time project worth paying attention to for the careful way it conveys its ingredients, background, and purpose.
