Flora Fermentation releases fifth Siren West Coast IPA
Flora Fermentation, based in Higashiomi, Shiga, has released Siren, a West Coast IPA now in its fifth outing. This batch uses a slightly heavier dry hop of Riwaka Diesel, aiming for bright fruit notes, pine-like aromas, and a clean bitter finish.
Siren returns for a fifth release
Flora Fermentation, based in Higashiomi, Shiga, has released 'Siren', a West Coast IPA. This is the beer's fifth release. The new batch comes in at 6.5% ABV and 40 IBU, with batch number 99/100. The hop bill includes Cascade (NZ), Riwaka Diesel, Citra, Cascade from Kamifurano, and Chinook, and this version is dry-hopped with a little more Riwaka Diesel than the previous batch.
Riwaka Diesel is described as a late-harvest Riwaka hop from New Zealand. Compared with standard Riwaka, which is known for tropical fruit, lemon, and grapefruit character, the later harvest is said to draw out a riper hop aroma. Flora uses that character to shape Siren into a West Coast IPA with passion fruit, grapefruit, and pine-like aromatics, firm bitterness, and a clean finish.
The name 'Siren' references the sirens of Greek mythology, whose songs lured sailors. In that sense, the beer is designed as a hop-forward IPA that invites another sip after the first one.
Flora Fermentation describes itself on its official site as a brewery that makes beer through agriculture and fermentation. The brewery also emphasizes growing hops and barley itself, which makes Siren fit neatly into its broader approach: a beer that highlights the character of the raw ingredients rather than hiding them.
Cans are listed as available through the August 17 shipment, and stock should be checked with each retailer.
