Flora Fermentation has announced the release of “Charun,” a new Hazy IPA from its brewery in Higashiomi, Shiga. The beer has an alcohol content of 6.5% and an IBU of 28. Its hop bill combines Mosaic, Vera, Amarillo, Citra, and Cryo Citra, allowing the character of Vera to stand out.
The defining ingredient is Vera, a new American hop variety bred by the USDA. According to the brewery, Vera offers tropical fruit, stone fruit, and citrus notes, with a particularly vivid aroma reminiscent of pineapple candy. As the variety is still new, its future introduction and cultivation in Japan will be worth watching.

The malt base includes Pale Ale Malt, Northstar Pils, Wheat Malt White, and Malted Oats. Flaked Oats and Flaked Wheat are also used to build the soft texture associated with Hazy IPA.
