Baeren Brewery, based in Morioka, Iwate, has released the 2026 batch of Baeren Weizen. The brewery’s official online shop lists the beer in 330 ml bottles, with shipping scheduled to begin from September 18.

Weizen is a traditional wheat beer style from southern Germany, generally brewed with at least 50% wheat malt. Baeren follows the classic style, allowing the yeast to create expressive aromas reminiscent of banana and clove.

The beer is designed around a soft, rounded mouthfeel rather than pronounced bitterness. Its fine, creamy foam and gentle malt character make it approachable even for drinkers who usually find beer too bitter. The beer has an alcohol content of 5.0% and is sold in 330 ml bottles.

The history of Weizen is also linked to Germany’s 1516 Beer Purity Law. At the time, wheat was primarily reserved for bread, and brewing with wheat was restricted to certain privileged breweries. As a result, wheat beer was once known as a “beer of the nobility.”

Baeren Brewery is known for carrying European brewing traditions into Morioka, using brewing equipment that includes a kettle more than a century old. Baeren Weizen pairs naturally with white sausages, seafood, herb-forward dishes, and meals featuring spices. Pour it into a glass and take time to enjoy the yeast-driven aroma alongside its soft, refreshing finish.
