Did you know there’s a brewery inside an outdoor shop right next to Izumo Taisha?

Wait, a brewery inside an outdoor shop!?
Hop Bro
Inside a select shop and restaurant called BSKK, there’s a brewery called Cheers Factory. The brewer, Kiyonobu Shingu, has quite an impressive background.

What kind of person is he?
Hop Bro
He’s from Shimane. While working in Tokyo, he grew stronger in his desire to make things back home, trained in brewing, and returned. He originally launched 3rd Barrel Brewery in Izumo’s Momen Kaido as the “third barrel” following a sake brewery and a soy sauce brewery.

Going back home to make beer... and in a town of soy sauce and sake breweries, being the “third barrel” already sounds wonderful.

After that, he moved his base closer to Izumo Taisha and started fresh with Cheers Factory. Smash Ale and Saison are the regular offerings, and the brewery is known for its careful process, with brewing, fermentation, and aging handled as separate stages.

What kind of beer is Smash Ale?
Hop Bro
SMASH stands for “Single Malt And Single Hop,” a style made with just one type of malt and one type of hop. Because the character of the ingredients comes through so directly, it really tests the brewer’s skill. They even grow some of their own hops, so you can feel how serious they are about it.
Mugi
A beer made with hops you grew yourself! And it’s great that you can drop by casually on your way back from visiting Izumo Taisha.
