Ottotto Brewery Hamamatsucho opened in 2017, and it's underground, just a 1-minute walk from Daimon Station. Once you go down, you're greeted by a brick-lined space with gleaming brewing tanks lined up all at once, which is pretty overwhelming.

A brewery underground!? 133 seats is seriously spacious!

The original beers are built around two flagships: "Akafuji Beer" and "Shirofuji Beer." Akafuji is a pilsner with a clear reddish-copper color, a nice balance of malt aroma, sweetness, and crisp bitterness. Shirofuji is a weizen, characterized by its unfiltered fruity aroma and clove-like notes.

Akafuji and Shirofuji, red and white Mount Fuji! Those names are great. If Shirofuji has little bitterness, I could recommend it to friends who are new to beer.

Brewmaster Kitayama keeps in mind that he wants even people unfamiliar with craft beer to enjoy it, so the brewery focuses on carefully crafting basic styles. There are more than 10 taps, and you can also enjoy guest beers from Japan and abroad.

So it's not just for beer geeks, but open to a wider audience too. Do they also have seasonal limited beers?
Hop Bro
They do. Seasonal fruit-based limited releases include Lemon Weizen, Mango Beer, Strawberry Ale, and Kiwi Beer. They also brew an American Pale Ale, which lets you enjoy citrusy hop aroma and richness.
Mugi
Seasonal fruit beers! That's the kind of place you'd want to keep going back to every season!

The food is solid too. They use hormone-free beef, and the most popular dish is the Louisiana Cajun Combo, seasoned with Cajun spices. It pairs perfectly with the beer.

Hamamatsucho has a lot of people heading home from work, so beer and spicy food while looking at brewing tanks in a brick underground space... that's the perfect after-work hangout. I want to go!
