Have you heard of Tsuji Brewing in Chigasaki? The owner, Akira Tsuji, used to work for a trading company and was stationed in the UK and the US for about 10 years.

What, from trading company employee to beer brewer? That's an amazing career change.

While he was in the US, he bought a homebrewing kit and started making beer himself. That sparked the dream of 'one day brewing beer that was entirely his own.' He quit the company, trained at another brewery, and opened in Chigasaki in 2021.
Mugi
He encountered authentic beer culture overseas and chased his dream... That's so cool.

It's in a residential neighborhood roughly halfway between Tsujido Station and Chigasaki Station, on the first floor of an apartment building. It's a 5-tap place, brewing things like English Pale Ale, DIPA, NEIPA, and Coffee Stout.
Mugi
Coffee Stout! That sounds interesting! But five taps is kind of small, right?
Hop Bro
That's the charm of a microbrewery. You can drink within sight of the brewing tanks, so you really feel close to the brewer. They also release seasonal limited beers, so there's always something new to discover every time you visit.
Mugi
Wow, drinking while looking at the tanks sounds amazing. It's in the Shonan area too, so I'd love to drop by casually on a day off.

It's also available as a hometown tax return gift, so if you donate to Chigasaki City, you can get a set of six original beers. I think Tsuji's strength is how his overseas experience from his trading-company days shows up in the brewing style, letting him do both English-style and American-style beers well.
Mugi
If I can try it through the hometown tax program, maybe I'll start there!
