Ume Weizen Arrives

At the brewpub "Andbeer" in Koenji, Tokyo, Ume Weizen has been tapped. It is a beer made by Ume Boys, using super-ripe Kishu Nanko plums. Banana-like aromas from the Weizen yeast are layered with the fruity character of the plums. Because the impression changes as the temperature rises, it seems best enjoyed slowly over time.

A Food Lineup That Pairs Well with Plum

Inside the shop, a wide range of plum-based snacks and dishes are being offered as "Ume Food Week." The lineup includes bitter melon with plum dressing, plum, chicken breast, and pickled mustard stem spring rolls, plum-vinegar fried chicken, and spicy chicken ham with plum tokemali sauce, all of which complement the beer. Tonight's biryani starts with sea bream and butterbur sprout miso biryani, while the curry selection begins with two kinds: plum chicken and mustard shrimp. Centered on Ume Weizen, the menu is designed to extend similar acidity and aromas through the food as well.

Convenient in the Style of a Koenji Brewpub

Andbeer is a brewpub in northern Koenji. It is open continuously from lunch through dinner and also offers beer to go. The terrace seating is available to both dogs and cats, making it an easy place to drop by in the neighborhood. If you drink on-site, it would be nice to carefully explore the combination of plum beer and plum dishes, while also taking advantage of the flexibility to take both food and beer home.

Promotional Sales Also at Isetan Shinjuku

For eight days from April 8 through April 14, weekly promotional sales are also being held at the "Isetan Craft Beer Bar" in Isetan Shinjuku. Ando, the company representative, is scheduled to be on site on April 9, April 10, and April 12, extending the Andbeer experience beyond the shop itself. It is a week that broadens the options, whether you enjoy Ume Weizen in Koenji or check it out in Shinjuku.
