On March 10, Shimanto Brewing looked back on last weekend’s event booth on Instagram, saying it had operated for two days at Central Park in Kochi City as “SHIMANTO Brewing’s first away event.”

According to the post, although there were some chilly periods, the weather was favorable and they were able to serve beer to visitors. On-site, the bottled beer sold out quickly, and the brewery expressed thanks and apologies to visitors who had planned to buy it.

The brewery also set up alongside members of the Kochi Craft Beer Council. While feeling anxious about participating in its first large-scale event, it candidly shared that it was helped by support from visitors and fellow vendors. The report showed the strength of cooperation among local breweries and conveyed the richness of the local craft scene.

This weekend as well, craft beer from breweries in Kochi Prefecture is expected to be available at Central Park in connection with “Okayaku.” However, Shimanto Brewing itself will not participate, and the post says its bottled beer can be purchased at the @kochi_drunkers_high booth.

Shimanto Brewing is based in Nakamura Honmachi, Shimanto City, Kochi, and its profile describes it as “a small brewery run by a married couple in the former premises of a long-established liquor store.” While operating a taproom rooted in the local community, it is also taking on off-site events in the prefectural capital like this one. Breweries based in local communities stepping out into the wider market is likely to be one of the points to watch as Kochi’s craft beer scene continues to grow.
