Yokohama Beer has begun shipping its seasonal "Meguriai" release, Odawara Orange Pale Ale, on June 9.
The beer is brewed with Kiyomi oranges grown at Akisawa Farm in Odawara, Kanagawa. The brewery uses the peel to bring out citrus aroma and a gentle bitterness, while the juice is added near the end of the brew to give the beer a fuller orange character. It is also brewed with spring water from Doshi Village, a source area for Yokohama's water supply, reinforcing the beer's strong local connection.
"Meguriai" is a series designed to showcase fruits and agricultural ingredients from local producers, turning each seasonal release into a way to taste the landscape around Yokohama and Kanagawa. That approach fits Yokohama Beer well: the brewery has long emphasized regional ties and collaboration with local growers. For this batch, the brewery says it increased the amount of aroma hops slightly to create a brighter, more expressive orange pale ale. The beer comes in 330 ml bottles, with 5.0% ABV and 20 IBU.
Rather than pushing for intensity, the beer aims for balance: fresh citrus character, a light finish, and a clear sense of place. It is a straightforward seasonal release, but one that continues to show how Yokohama Beer builds beers around local ingredients and the people who grow them.
