Kishiwada Beer, based in Kishiwada, Osaka, will begin sequential shipments of “Tekko (Outside Food Service),” a beer supplied to restaurants and other food-service businesses, from September 29. The product is listed as a member-only item for food-service delivery.
Tekko is a wheat ale made with at least 50% wheat malt. According to the brewery, this gives the beer a softer, more approachable mouthfeel than a standard ale. It has an alcohol content of 5%, comes in a 330ml bottle, and should be refrigerated. The stated shelf life is six months from production.
The beer’s character comes from the pairing of Cascade and Simcoe hops. Cascade contributes a bright citrus aroma and refreshing bitterness, while Simcoe adds a fruity fragrance and greater depth to the flavor. Together, they create a profile that balances lift and richness without relying solely on bitterness.
Kishiwada Beer presents Tekko as suitable for both experienced beer drinkers and those new to craft beer. Its gentle texture makes it easy to approach, while the hop expression gives enthusiasts plenty to explore. The citrus and fruity notes should work well with seafood, salads and other lighter dishes, while the soft body and bitterness can also complement fried foods and savory meat dishes.
The brewery grew out of Hokkai Iron Works, a Kishiwada-based manufacturer. Drawing on its experience in metalworking, the company began brewing craft beer using equipment designed and produced in-house. Kishiwada Beer handles ingredient selection, brewing and bottling by hand, connecting the area’s manufacturing heritage with local beer production. Its lineup also includes Kurogane, known for a fuller-bodied profile, and Shirogane, which offers a lighter, more refreshing drink.
When Tekko appears at a restaurant, try smelling it before the first sip. The interplay between Cascade’s citrus character and Simcoe’s fruity depth is the key to understanding this approachable wheat ale. Further details are available on the official Kishiwada Beer product page.
