Better life with upcycle, a craft brewery based in Ebina, Kanagawa, has released a new beer, IyoQ XPA, pronounced “Iyo-Q XPA.” The Extra Pale Ale uses thinned Iyo citrus harvested while still green, together with cucumber.

A fresh combination of citrus and cucumber

IyoQ XPA brings together the green citrus character of young Iyo citrus and the gentle vegetal freshness of cucumber. The two ingredients are added during fermentation, allowing their fresh, green notes and citrus aromas to remain at the center of the beer.

The brewery has chosen a crisp, lean XPA profile, reducing sweetness and body to create a clean finish. Nelson Sauvin hops add fresh aromas reminiscent of lychee and mango, complementing the botanical character of the fruit and cucumber.

A dry, refreshing structure

Rice is used in the mash to promote a higher degree of fermentation and a drier impression. The result is designed to offer freshness from the first aroma through the finish, while keeping the beer light and highly drinkable.

Better life with upcycle develops craft beer around the idea of giving new value to food byproducts. The brand is connected to a century-old boulangerie and combines the skills of bakers and brewers. Its beers include products made with materials such as bread crusts, reflecting an approach that links food-loss reduction with flavor.

IyoQ XPA continues that philosophy through a different combination of ingredients. Its crisp profile and vivid green character make it a fitting choice for relaxed home drinking when a bright, refreshing beer is called for.
