BRIGHT BLUE BREWING Serves Five Beers in Fujiyoshida, Linking Spent Grain with Local Eggs
BRIGHT BLUE BREWING, a brewpub in Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi, is serving five beers including Ichigome Pilsner and Pink Boots IPA. The brewery also highlights a local recycling initiative in which spent grain is reused as feed by a nearby poultry farm and returned as colorful eggs.
A local exchange built around beer and eggs
BRIGHT BLUE BREWING, a brewpub in Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi, has shared details of how it reuses spent grain from brewing. A local poultry farm, RIKEIEN, collects the grain and uses it as chicken feed. Eggs from the chickens are then returned to the brewery, creating a small but tangible cycle between brewing and local agriculture.
RIKEIEN also raises several Araucana chickens, a South American breed known for laying small eggs with pastel green shells. BRIGHT BLUE BREWING says that people who want to use spent grain as garden fertilizer can collect it free of charge on the day of brewing, including in small quantities.
Five beers on tap
The current tap list includes Ichigome Pilsner, a crisp pilsner; My Ale 2nd, a saison; and Pink Boots IPA, an American wheat IPA. The lineup also features Jalapeño Saison, which brings a chili accent to a saison base, and Spice Ale, a spice brown ale.
Bottles of Ichigome Pilsner and Pink Boots IPA are also available. The taproom opens from 10:00 to 17:00 on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays during consecutive holiday periods.
Located in Fujiyoshida at the foot of Mount Fuji, BRIGHT BLUE BREWING offers a chance to explore a varied local beer lineup while seeing how brewing byproducts can connect the brewery with nearby food production.
