Niigata-based Toki Brewery in Sado City introduced its limited-edition beer "Scrum v2.0" for Scrum Fest Niigata 2026 on Instagram. The style is DDH Hazy IPA, with 6.5% ABV and 13 IBU. The hops used are Cascade / Mosaic / Galaxy.
In the post, the brewery explained that this beer was brewed again this year for Scrum Fest Niigata 2026. Last year it was an IPA, but this time they switched to a Hazy IPA. Although there was trouble during the brew, with the system getting stuck, it was completed successfully. By revisiting the malt bill, they created a beer that lets the hops take center stage, and the DDH process intensifies the aroma.
The aroma is described as having notes like passion fruit, guava, and peach. On the other hand, because filtration took time, the beer reportedly ended up with a relatively dry finish. It can be seen as a beer that aims for a balance: juicy in the way a Hazy IPA should be, yet easy to drink without fatigue.
The name "Scrum" comes from the Scrum software development methodology. According to the post, nine people gathered in Sado this year to brew it together. It is a direct reflection of the collaborative image of development, translated into beer making.
Toki Brewery operates a brewery in Ryotsu on Sado Island and primarily makes beer as a limited-batch brewery. Centered on American styles, it offers a wide range of beers, from IPA and Hazy IPA to collaboration brews. Because many of its releases are limited editions tied to the island's local character and events, this "Scrum v2.0" is also worth watching as a highly one-off release from Sado. The Instagram post says orders are accepted starting today, and sales are cans only.
