New tap

On June 14, BEER SPACE on Tap in Kobe Motomachi highlighted a new beer from Tokyo-based And Beer: Shade Break. The beer is an American IPA at 5.4% ABV, brewed with a special Cascade hop called Deep Cut™ Cascade, matured longer in the field than usual. According to the post, it brings bright aromas reminiscent of mandarin, peach, and grapefruit, along with piney and resin-like notes. Despite the generous hopping, it is described as clean and free of rough edges.

What is on tap

The day’s tap list featured seven beers:

- And Beer / Shade Break
- SOUTH HORIZON / Junos Pandemic
- HIROSHIMA NOH BREWERY / Caramel Honey Stout
- KUNITACHI BREWERY / 1926
- Free Spirits Brewing / Lockheart
- Edelpils
- KUNITACHI BREWERY / 四六時中

The selection spans IPA, stout, and lager-like options, making it easy to choose between a sharp hop showcase, malt sweetness, or something crisp and approachable. Shade Break sits at the center of the lineup, while brewery names from Kobe, Hiroshima, and beyond give the tap list a wide-ranging feel.

The venue

BEER SPACE on Tap is a compact beer pub located in the basement of Kobe Plaza Hotel. The shop describes itself as an old-fashioned, relaxed underground space designed to let guests forget the bustle above ground. With only 11 seats, a non-smoking room, a projector, and free Wi-Fi, it is well suited to slow-paced drinking and small-group visits.

The post also notes Sunday hours from 3 p.m. and invites guests to wind down with a good beer before the week begins. It additionally mentions a June 21 broadcast of a FIFA World Cup Japan match, showing the pub’s range from casual daily drinking to game-day gatherings.
