Hanfukuro Beer Releases Limited "IRON BURTON" - A Modern Interpretation of British Tradition
Hanfukuro Beer (Shizuoka) has unveiled its limited-release beer, "IRON BURTON." It reconstructs Burton Ale, which developed in 19th-century Burton upon Trent, England, through the brewery's own interpretation. Its defining features are a design that balances toasty malt character with a distinct bitterness and crisp finish inspired by hard water.
On March 23, 2026, Hanfukuro Beer announced on its official website, "New limited beer debuts 🔩 'IRON BURTON.'" The beer style is Burton Ale. It is positioned as a limited release that translates the classic style established in 19th-century Britain into a modern drinking experience.
According to the official description, in addition to malt-derived aromas reminiscent of toast and biscuits, the beer brings out the contour of its bitterness and a unique crispness through a water profile designed to evoke "hard water" with calcium and magnesium in mind. In the brewing process, Izu's soft water is adjusted to create a sharper impression, while British yeast adds tea-like nuances.
The specs are 7.0% ABV and 35 IBU. The hops used are Bramling Cross and First Gold. Its appearance is a deep brown, its aroma recalls biscuits and caramel, and its flavor aims to combine depth with a clean finish. The suggested pairing is roast beef dressed with balsamic sauce.
It is available as keg (10L / 15L), hand pump (10L), and cans (350ml). The cans are nitro-filled, designed so that you can shake them and pour with force to enjoy a smooth, creamy head.
Hanfukuro Beer is a brewery in Nirayama, Izu, Shizuoka, and has long championed "tradition and innovation" while incorporating the historical background of the Nirayama Reverberatory Furnace into its brand. That blend of historical perspective and technical approach is strongly reflected in this IRON BURTON release as well.
