In an Instagram post, Kagoya Akimoto Shoten introduced "Komae Hop Cultivation Supporters 2026" as a "special local project" by store manager Ryoji. It is a community-participation initiative in which hop seedlings are sold exclusively to Komae residents, and the harvested hops are used in brewing at Kagoya Brewery.

The participation process is simple: buy a seedling at the store and register as a supporter using the QR code shown on the POP display. Seedlings are 700 yen per pot, tax included. The post identifies Cascade as the hop variety to grow, and the chance to connect hops grown at home directly to actual beer production is a defining feature of the project.

Kagoya Brewery is Komae's first craft beer brewery, located in Komae City, Tokyo. It launched in 2017 and has continued making beer rooted in the local community while drawing on its experience as a specialist liquor retailer. Official information also highlights its efforts to create products that connect land and people, such as brewing with wooden barrels and using hops grown by local farmers.

This hop cultivation supporter project can be seen as an extension of that approach. Since participants can take part not only by buying beer ingredients at the store but also from the growing stage onward, it makes the story behind the finished beer more visible. Local ingredients are grown by local people, and the local brewery brews them. It is a participatory craft beer project from Komae, in the style of Kagoya Brewery.
