Spring Beer Festival Held in Chofu and Seiseki-Sakuragaoka, a Regional Tie-In Connecting Two Stations on the Line
Spring beer events will be held in succession at Chofu Station and Seiseki-Sakuragaoka Station on the Keio Line from April 18 to 26. Chofu will host its first edition, while Seiseki-Sakuragaoka marks its seventh, bringing together breweries along the line and locally collaborated products.
A spring beer event spanning Keio Line's Chofu Station and Seiseki-Sakuragaoka Station will be held in two parts, on April 18 and 19, and again from April 23 to 26. On the Chofu side, the first-ever "Chofu Minna no Beer Festival" will take place at Tetsumichi on the north side of Trie Keio Chofu Building C. In addition to eight small breweries from along the Keio Line, five food vendors active in Chofu will line up, and stage performances by local performers and artists are also planned.
The following week, the "Seiseki Spring Beer Festival" will be held at the rooftop BBQ area on the 8th floor of Keio Seiseki-Sakuragaoka Shopping Center Building A, and the space beside the BBQ area. This is the seventh edition, and with 19 breweries participating, it is a large-scale event. Regional collaborations are also a highlight, including an original beer brewed by Tamagawa University's Matsumoto seminar at 26K Brewery in Musashino City, and wasabi gyoza jointly developed with Wasabi Shokudo in Okutama.
A common multi-use ticket valid for both events costs 3,500 yen and covers five regular-sized beers. There are also a popularity vote, a spring beer lottery, a stamp rally, and Keio Train Point perks, creating a setup where the pleasure of drinking naturally connects with strolling around town.
In terms of savoring a region's character while traveling, Tendo Brewery inside Yubou Ichiraku in Tendo Onsen, Yamagata, is also impressive. This brewery operates out of a hot-spring inn, and makes drinks such as "Seiko-bo (St. Cherry)," using cherries, and "Mr. A," which brings out the aroma of soba. Including the experience of having a beer on the terrace after a soak, craft beer expands the enjoyment of "drinking the region."
