Tsukuba Brewery announced that it has brewed a new release for its 6th anniversary, “嬥歌 West Coast Double IPA,” and plans to debut it at its Dōhō Park-front location on Friday, June 5. In the post, the brewery referred to the dry-hopping work during brewing and revealed that it used hop oil costing 100,000 yen per kilogram in a process designed to bring out the aroma.

This “嬥歌” series is one that fans of the brewery have been eagerly awaiting. This batch is a special anniversary edition, and unlike the usual dry hop with pellet hops, it aims to give the beer a strong aroma and a fuller body overall. The post also conveyed how special the brew was, with the brewer even saying, “Make sure to film this moment.”

Tsukuba Brewery is a craft beer brewery based in Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture. It is known for its taproom in front of Dōhō Park and for brewing with water from the foothills of Mt. Tsukuba, distilling the character of Tsukuba into its beers. According to the city’s introduction, water from Mt. Tsukuba is medium-hard, and the water used by the brewery is said to have a hardness of around 150 mg, reflecting the region’s character in the brewing process.

As the brewery reaches this anniversary milestone, attention is on what kind of IPA aroma and drinking profile it will finish. The West Coast Double IPA’s hop-driven edge and the distinctive presence of the 嬥歌 series are worth watching for.
