Konono Beer, a brewery in Hashimoto, Wakayama, has started selling its bottled sansho pale ale. The brewery says the beer is meant for both home drinking and gift-giving, expanding its appeal beyond draft service.

The brewery is attached to the natural hot spring facility Yunosato. Its beers are brewed with "Tsuki no Shizuku," a mineral water from Yunosato, giving the brewery a strong local identity rooted in place and water. Alongside the brewery is Konono BEER STOP, where visitors can enjoy freshly brewed beer on site.

According to the post, the sansho pale ale uses the "bio-water" of pesticide-free Wakayama sansho. A vacuum-drying technique is used to carefully draw out the herb's delicate aroma, and the bio-water from the leaves and fruit is blended in balance. The result is a beer built on a solid malt backbone, with a refreshing and vivid sansho aroma layered on top.

While pale ales are often defined by hop character, this release puts sansho at the center. It is a good example of how local ingredients and brewing technique can shape a beer's identity, and it should work well both as a food-pairing beer and as a bottle to savor slowly.
