Nanki-Shirahama Nagisa Beer announced in an Instagram post that its limited-edition beer, Tropical Sunset, received recognition in an American- category at the International Beer Cup 2026. The brewery described the news as a particularly welcome surprise that arrived late on October 6.

Tropical Sunset is a hoppy saison named after the atmosphere of a sunset in Shirahama. Its label features Engetsu Island, a scenic landmark recognized as one of Japan’s “100 Best Sunsets.” The beer went on limited sale on September 28, 2026, making the competition recognition a timely boost for the newly released bottle.

Based in Shirahama, Nishimuro District, Wakayama, Nagisa Beer has brewed craft beer since 1996. The brewery uses Tomida spring water from the area near the Kumano Kodo’s Tomida Pass as its brewing water. Its lineup includes Pale Ale, American Wheat, IPA, Mikan Ale, and other seasonal beers.

Nagisa Beer also focuses on preserving freshness during bottling by limiting the beer’s exposure to oxygen. Its beers are unpasteurized and not filter-sterilized, allowing drinkers to experience the brewery’s intended aroma and flavor when the bottles are properly refrigerated.

The brewery has previously earned international recognition, including a gold medal for Pale Ale and a bronze medal for American Wheat at the 2021 International Beer Cup. Tropical Sunset adds another chapter to Nagisa Beer’s record of bringing the character of southern Wakayama to beer lovers in Japan and abroad.
