Ikebukuro beer pub reaches a 16-year milestone
"vivo! BEER+DININGBAR," located underground at Ikebukuro's East Exit, has reached its 16th anniversary since relocation. Counting from the opening of the former location, the shop has a long history spanning 23 years and has built its presence as a beer pub beloved by craft beer fans. This commemorative event will be held over five days from April 22 to April 26.
Spotlight on anniversary originals and special taps
The highlights this time are two original beers prepared for the anniversary. "vivo!×CYCAD BREWING 16 (sixteen)," a collaboration with CYCAD BREWING, is an English golden ale, while "vivo!×CYCAD BREWING 42 (forty two)" is lined up as a pale ale. In addition, "vivo!×Inkhorn Brewing Shima Fukuro," a hazy pale ale finished with a slightly adjusted recipe in collaboration with Inkhorn Brewing, is the kind of pint that suits an anniversary occasion.
A broad range of pints to drink here
Among the event kegs is Vallejo Brewing's "Evil Trinity," which will make its Japan debut via AQ Bevolution. Also on offer are anniversary-worthy special labels such as Kanpai! Brewing's "Arakanzaka Citrus Lager," Sankt Gallen's "Super Shonan Gold," Daisen G Beer's "Grand Saison 2015," and Bakusokokobo Microbrewery's "NaRa Goldenberyl."
Looking at the overall lineup, there is Ushitora Brewery's "Miyashita Park IPA," Shiga Kogen Beer's "SNOW MONKEY IPA," Yatsugatake Beer Touchdown's "Rock Dry Hopped Weizen," Minoh Beer's "BATON 007" and "Session Black IPA," Isekadoya Beer's "Bourbon Barrel Aged Shadowplay," draught Guinness from St. James's Gate, and Kirin Beer's Heartland. With IPA, lager, saison, stout, and fruit-forward styles all represented, the range for side-by-side tasting is very much in keeping with this place.
Plenty of food to pair with the beer
The food includes dishes that naturally keep the beer flowing, such as a white balsamic marinade with zucchini and snap peas, potato salad with tuna and edamame, pizza with shirasu and sakura shrimp, and pork fillet seared with herb butter. In a venue boasting 20 taps, the lineup seems well suited for taking your time to explore the anniversary limited kegs.
