Bankan puts food-and-beer pairings at the center of July

Bankan, a beer pub in Koenji, Tokyo, has published its July schedule. Known for serving up to 14 Japanese craft beers on tap, the bar has built a reputation around beer-first drinking alongside frequent guest-chef events. This month’s lineup leans even further into that format, with a calendar full of rotating food collaborations.

The beer highlights: Apple Hop and Shonan Beer

The first beer-focused event to note is the Apple Hop five-beer comparison on July 19. It is tied to Minamishinshu Beer and offers a chance to sample multiple fruit-forward expressions in one sitting, which should appeal to drinkers who want to compare aroma, sweetness, and finish side by side.

The other major beer event arrives on July 25 and 26, when Bankan hosts a Shonan Beer TAP TAKE OVER. For two days, the taps will be dedicated to Shonan Beer, giving regular visitors a chance to enjoy a different draft lineup from the pub’s usual rotation.

Food pop-ups run throughout the month

July 1-2 bring Bistro Satoshi. Other scheduled appearances include Hidamari Kitchen on the 4th, Mio Meshi on the 5th, Sake to Obanzai on the 7th, Yakuzen Mala-tan on the 10th, Fresh Bluefin Tuna Dog Vol. 7 on the 11th, Trip Masala Biryani and an ear acupressure session on the 12th, and Tabinomi / Taiwanese dishes on the 13th.

Later in the month, Snack Ellie appears on the 17th and 18th, Bistro Satoshi returns on the 21st and 22nd, Modern Japanese Curry NEWROSE is scheduled for the 26th, and Asurafu Organic Vegetable Cooking Class Vol. 3 closes out the month on the 30th and 31st.

Check the schedule before you go

Because so many dates are event-driven, it’s worth checking the schedule before heading over. For beer lovers, that means a better chance of lining up the right guest food with the day’s tap selection, which is exactly the kind of flexible, beer-centered experience Bankan has become known for in Koenji.
