Komatsu Brewing, which continues brewing after renovating a machiya townhouse in Honori-cho, Komatsu City, Ishikawa Prefecture, has announced a review of its label design. The beers affected are “Stonish IPA” and “Honokana Ale,” and both have been bottled and returned to sale in line with this announcement.

In the post, the brewery explained that accent details were added to the familiar labels, which had previously been difficult to tell apart, by @yuko.n.1031. It also revealed that the connection with @rou0912nakachi helped lead to the project, making the design change an effort born from outside relationships. Some stock with the old labels will remain available for the time being.

There were also small updates to the beer itself. Stonish IPA has been adjusted to come across as slightly more bitter than before. Meanwhile, Honokana Ale now uses a different barley variety, making the color a little lighter, increasing the proportion of wheat, and revising the yeast, resulting in a stronger impression of silkiness and haze. It began as a Hazy Pale Ale, but as brewing has continued, it has moved closer to the character of a white beer.

Komatsu Brewing is known as the first craft beer brewery established in Komatsu City. Using locally sourced ingredients while gradually changing its recipes even for standard offerings, it continues making beers that let drinkers enjoy the differences. This latest label refresh can be seen as a move that conveys that approach visually as well.
