Beer Pub Beer Cafe Gambrinus, on the 6th floor in Minamicho, Kokubunji, has announced the tapping of Czech-imported beers. Hours are 17:00-25:00, so both food and drinks can be enjoyed late into the night.
The first release is Bernard / Dark 12°. This dark lager has a toasty aroma yet goes down cleanly, and the fact that it is limited to a single keg makes it all the more noteworthy. For anyone who wants a roasty character in a light, easy-drinking beer, this looks like a cup worth paying attention to.
The tap lineup is also broad. It includes Outsider / Sasquatch, an American IPA; Nomcraft / Mighty Dragon, a hazy IPA; Yokohama Bay Brewing / Flatland, an extra pale ale; and Hino Brewing / Heisei Banana, a fruit weizen, making it easy to compare aromatic styles. The selection also includes Belgian blondes like Novoru Brewing / Musubu, ginger ale from Johana Beer / Golden Spark, rye IPA from Baird Beer / Brewer's Nightmare Rye IPA, and Coffee Stout from Craft Bank / Coffee Stout, offering plenty of room to enjoy pairings with food.
Among the Czech beers, Pilsner Urquell is also on tap. In addition, Gambrinus / 12° [Pilsner], scheduled for delivery on April 7, and Minoh Beer / Rockin' Osaru IPA [Double IPA], marked Coming Soon, are also in the lineup, making the changing selection something to watch.
The food menu features seasonal dishes such as oyster stir-fried turnips and pork, marinated firefly squid and new onions, charred spring cabbage with Japanese pepper aroma, and grilled turnips with dengaku miso. With beer as the star while still offering food worth savoring, this is one spot to keep in mind if you're following draft beer in Kokubunji.
