Three days of lager and German food

PEPOWN will hold its “Autumn Lager Festival” from Saturday, October 10, through Monday, October 12. Inspired by Munich’s Oktoberfest, the event will bring together lager beers selected from breweries around Japan and serve them on tap.

The beer list includes five beers from Passific Brewing: “Himmel,” “Polka,” “Yeedle,” “All Of The Day,” and “Passific Lager.” Also listed are Shiga Kogen Beer’s “Fresh Hop Pils” and “House Lager,” as well as “Münchner Helles” from Baeren Brewery. Six of the eight beers on the list will be tapped during the festival.

The lineup focuses on lagers that are easy to compare across breweries, from classic, clean-drinking expressions to the more hop-forward “Fresh Hop Pils.” It offers beer fans a chance to explore differences in aroma, bitterness, and finish while staying within the lager family.

German-inspired food pairings

Food options include a platter of Frankfurt sausages from Yajima Ham, a currywurst made with bread from a popular bakery in Tsujido, and pretzels from Bäckerei Takayama. The menu also features schnitzel, eisbein made with braised pork knuckle, marinated herring, and sauerkraut.

Located in Chigasaki’s Tomoe district, PEPOWN provides a brewery setting suited to relaxed tasting. The “Lager Champion” event will also take place during the same period, adding another reason to visit and sample the beers over the holiday weekend.
