Seattle inspiration in Daisen, Akita

Akita Brewing Company is a brewpub located near JR Omagari Station in Daisen, Akita. It is run by married couple Jason Pollard and Ryoko Morita. After moving from Seattle to Daisen in 2019, Jason took charge of brewing while Ryoko handles sales and business operations.

The brewery draws on Seattle’s craft beer culture, focusing on approachable ales that showcase hop aroma and bitterness. Its beers combine a West Coast sensibility with the character of Akita, where the couple now lives and brews.

A varied lineup of ales, IPA and porter

The flagship Heba Ale is a 4% blonde ale named after the Akita dialect word “heba,” meaning “see you.” It is designed as an easy-drinking beer for everyday occasions.

Seseragi Summer Ale is a refreshing pale ale with bright citrus notes. Brewed in a SMaSH format using one malt and one hop variety, it offers a clean, lively profile. Daydream Session IPA brings hop character in a lighter, highly drinkable format.

The lineup also includes 5.8% Doki Doki, a pale ale born from an unexpected hop addition; Momomo Hazy IPA; Anchors Team, an amber ale with a malty, chocolate-like toastiness; and Mugi no Yodare, a porter with a deeper roasted character.

A taste of Akita in Daikanyama

Bibibi. is a craft beer pub built around the idea that knowing a brewer’s story makes the beer more enjoyable. Located three minutes from Daikanyama Station, the bar presents beers from breweries across Japan from its tap-focused counter.

This collaboration gives Tokyo drinkers a chance to explore beers brewed in Omagari, Akita. Start with the light and approachable Heba Ale, then compare it with the hop-driven IPA or the richer porter. Availability may vary, so check the current tap list at the bar.
