Gogoshima Beer Farm Releases New Saison Brewed with Salt Made from Seawater from Gogoshima Island
Gogoshima Beer Farm (Gogoshima Island, Matsuyama, Ehime) has released a new beer, "Full Moon Saison w/ SeaSalt (from Gogoshima Island)," made with salt created from seawater drawn up on the morning of high tide on the day of the full moon. As a beer commemorating its third anniversary, it has been finished as a saison that makes the most of the island's rhythm and ingredients.
Gogoshima Beer Farm has announced a new product, "Full Moon Saison w/ SeaSalt (from Gogoshima Island)." A six-can set will begin shipping sequentially from April 11.
The core of this beer is seawater drawn from the sea around Gogoshima Island on the morning of the full tide on the day of the full moon. It was turned into salt at the brewery, and that mineral character was layered into the saison. The flavor is light and dry. Gentle malt sweetness is joined by a subtle dry-hop aroma, while the salt-derived outline sharpens the finish. Alcohol content is about 4.0%, and IBU is about 20. It will be available in 350 ml cans and 15 L kegs.
The brewery is a microbrewery on Gogoshima Island in Matsuyama, Ehime, which opened in December 2022. The family moved there in January 2022, renovated a 150-year-old traditional house, and launched the brewery. While making use of the island's citrus and local resources, it continues to craft beers that pair well with meals and never get tiring to drink.
This new release clearly reflects that direction as well. Rather than putting flashy flavors front and center, it is a beer built from the island's sea and salt, along with the straightforward character of saison yeast. It is easy to imagine it pairing well with seafood carpaccio, salt-grilled dishes, chicken dishes with herbs, and simple vegetable dishes. If you enjoy it at the taproom on the weekend, starting with light appetizers should make the salt's outline and the hop aroma stand out even more.
It can be called a new product that is very much true to this brewery, distilling Gogoshima Island's local character directly into a drink.
