At Minamiaizu Mountain Brewing / Taproom BeerFridge, “Tewassa” and “Wodhi” are being introduced on Instagram. True to the spirit of a brewpub in Aizutajima, one of Aizu’s towns, the charm of the place is that you can enjoy house-brewed beer on the spot in a small taproom with the warmth of wood.
Tewassa
“Tewassa” is a Mountain Ale / XPA with an ABV of 5.5%. It is a re-release born from a brew first made for last year’s Golden Week event, “MWM’25,” where children drew the label. This time, without changing the malt bill, it uses the Polish single hop “Zombie.” The brewery says it finishes with a firm bitterness after aromas reminiscent of blue citrus and mandarin, making it a beer that pairs well with food.
Wodhi
“Wodhi” is an IPA with an ABV of 6.5%. Brewed on the brewery’s anniversary day last year, it was designed as an homage to Georgetown Brewing’s Bodhizafa IPA. It combines Mosaic, Centennial, Citra, Chinook, and Columbus, layering orange- and tangerine-like citrus notes with piney character and malt-derived sweetness. This is a beer for anyone looking for an IPA that is crisp rather than hazy, yet still has a solid backbone.
Minamiaizu Mountain Brewing is also a brewery that has been translating regional ingredients and event memories into beer. For anyone in Aizutajima who wants to raise a glass along with the story of the place, these two offerings are a lineup that clearly shows what this brewery is about.
