Nara Brewing, based in Nara City, has announced the release of its hoppy pilsner "KIP." This beer, at 5.5% ABV and 19 IBU, will be available in kegs and 350 ml cans.
Features of KIP
"KIP" is a hoppy pilsner. Using lager yeast while incorporating hops not commonly used in traditional pilsners, it is a beer with a subtle twist. This time, wet hops are also used. The brewery says you can enjoy the fresh, vibrant aroma that comes only from raw hops that have just been harvested and have not been dried.
It pours a clear golden color, with gentle esters from the lager yeast layered with lime and lemon aromas from Motueka hops. Fresh, meadow-like aromas characteristic of wet hops are added on top, while the crispness of the malt and the sharp hop bitterness give the beer its outline.
The Nuance Behind the Name
The name "KIP" is British slang for "nap." Nara Brewing positions this beer as one that is well suited to drinking as a refreshing pause during the lingering heat of the afternoon. Its light, easy-drinking character is reflected in the name, which evokes the feeling of wanting to take a breather.
