A summer-friendly radler with kabosu

Radler is a beer style that originated in Germany as a beer-and-lemonade mix and is often associated with summer drinking. Baeren's version replaces the lemonade with kabosu juice from Oita Prefecture. The brewery says the beer is made without added flavoring, and that the fresh juice brings out green, slightly bitter fruit notes that give the beer more complexity than a lemon radler.

An early-summer staple for the brewery

According to Baeren, Kabosu Radler is now in its eighth year as an early-summer beer. The product originated in 2019, when a consultant involved in the brewery's work-style reform introduced Baeren to the Oita Prefectural Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Department. Since then, it has been positioned as a beer that connects Oita and Iwate through a regional ingredient.

Baeren, known as a brewery in Iwate's Shizukuishi area, has long balanced classic brewing methods with seasonal releases. This year's Kabosu Radler follows that approach: a light, food-friendly beer that aims to suit the warmer months without losing the character of the fruit.
