Baird Brewery Garden Shuzenji to Hold 12th Anniversary Festival on May 23 and 24
Baird Brewery Garden Shuzenji in Izu City, Shizuoka, will hold its 12th anniversary festival on May 23 and 24. With the theme “Craftsmanship,” the two-day event will revisit the roots of craft and share the appeal of special beers and making things by hand.
A 12th Anniversary Festival Calling for a Return to the Roots
Baird Brewery Garden Shuzenji will hold its 12th anniversary festival over two days, May 23 and 24, from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. This year’s theme is “Craftsmanship - Back to Our Roots and Toward the Future -.” Baird Beer is once again examining the meaning of the words “craft beer,” which it has treasured since its founding, and is preparing the event as one that puts the pride of artisans and attention to detail front and center.
The venue, Baird Brewery Garden Shuzenji, is a brewing base along the Kano River in Izu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, where the tasting room opened in June 2014. On the third floor is a taproom with 20 taps, along with a beer deck overlooking the mountains and a viewing passageway that lets visitors look out over the brewing process. The location, where beer can be enjoyed in the middle of nature, strongly reflects the character of this brewery.
This anniversary festival will focus on craftsmanship, welcoming vendors offering craft goods and workshops in line with the theme. According to the official announcement, advance tickets will be sold, and reservations will also be accepted for ume plum harvesting experiences and special brewery tours.
Baird Beer has produced more than 60 kinds of beer a year, while treating everything from ingredient selection and equipment to the production process, label art, and taproom design as part of its “craft.” Another defining feature is that it has continued, since its founding, to use fresh hops, unfiltered beer, and secondary fermentation in the bottle or cask. The anniversary festival looks set to offer a chance to experience that philosophy not only through taste, but through the atmosphere of the place itself.
