New release on August 1

Baird Brewery Garden Shuzenji has released Public House Bitter on August 1. The beer is Baird's take on an ordinary bitter, a classic British pub style. With a 4% ABV, it is built as a light-bodied, easy-drinking ale meant to be enjoyed slowly over a few pints.

The recipe centers on balance. It uses floor-malted Maris Otter, caramel malt, East Kent Golding, and Fuggle hops. The brewery also leans into British techniques such as single-temperature infusion and real ale conditioning, with sugar added at packaging to encourage natural carbonation.

The label reflects the social atmosphere of a lively public house, which fits Baird's long-running interest in British pub culture. Baird Brewing was founded in Numazu in 2000 by Bryan and Sayuri Baird, then later moved its base to Shuzenji. From its brewery garden in Izu City, the company has continued to make beers that emphasize the character of their ingredients.
