Nara Brewing, a craft beer brewery in Nara City, has announced the first shipment stores for its collaboration beer "TYPHINA (Tifina)" with VERTERE of Okutama, Tokyo. As of April 18, sales are centered mainly at liquor shops, and it is also available through Nara Brewing's online store.
"TYPHINA" is characterized by lower carbonation than a standard pilsner. By softening the prickle of the foam, it is designed so that the malt-derived sweetness and the delicate aroma of hops come through more clearly. Built on the approachable style of pilsner, it slightly changes the impression on the palate, bringing the contours of its aroma and flavor into sharper focus.
VERTERE also sells a separate beer of the same name in a different style, so there is enjoyment in tasting the interpretations of both breweries side by side. Viewed in the context of a collaboration, it is interesting that the different styles allow drinkers to experience each brewery's brewing philosophy.
The first shipment stores are spread widely, from Aomori in the north to Kagoshima in the south. In the Tokyo metropolitan area, the beer is available at liquor stores, department stores, and food-and-beverage sections in Tokyo and Kanagawa. In the Kansai region, it is also being carried in Kyoto, Osaka, and Nara. Within Nara Prefecture, names such as "Momotaro," "Noto to Hakko Zen," and "Kintetsu Department Store Nara Store Yamatoji" are listed, making it relatively easy to pick up locally.
As a brewery based in Kitanosho Nishimachi, Nara City, Nara Brewing has continued to release distinctive limited-edition beers and collaborations. This "TYPHINA" is also a beer that invites appreciation of its careful design rather than flashy impact. While retaining the drinkability typical of a pilsner, it is a beer that encourages a slow, thoughtful encounter, with its aroma and sweetness carefully adjusted in how they present themselves.
