Bar Fiddich in Minamimachi, Nara City, Nara Prefecture is serving two guest beers with different styles of fruit expression at the same time. The beers tapped this time are Sanktgallen's "Whey Sour Ale Strawberry" and Y.Market Brewing's "Minamichita Bergamot IPA".
"Whey Sour Ale Strawberry" is a sour ale that makes use of whey, a byproduct created during cheese production. The post describes it as a flavor that layers plenty of strawberry over the fruity acidity derived from lactic acid bacteria. Even the foam has a faint strawberry tint, and while the aroma recalls strawberry jam, the drink itself is sweet-tart with almost no noticeable bitterness. It is an easy-drinking glass not only for people who like sour beers, but also for those who are not fond of bitterness.
The other beer, "Minamichita Bergamot IPA," is a fruit IPA made with bergamot from Manshu Fruits. It is said to offer a lightly hazy golden color, a medium body, a refreshing aroma that brings to mind bergamot and lemon tea, and a herbal, floral citrus character reminiscent of Earl Grey. The bitterness at the finish is pleasant as well, making it well balanced and easy to pair with food.
According to the shop's announcement, each beer is being poured from a limited 10L keg. It is the kind of tap rotation that craft beer fans will not want to miss, giving them the chance to compare the sweet-tart brightness of strawberries with the refined citrus of bergamot in Nara's evening. The shop is a beer pub in the Uehata Building, and it is an easy place to stop by on a day when you want to relax and sip a glass in peace.
