At CRAFT PORT FUNABASHI, a beer pub on the second floor in central Funabashi, the guest beer lineup has been refreshed with two new taps: North Island Beer’s California Common "Shunkai" and Hop Kotan Brewing’s American IPA "Ongoing".

"Shunkai" is described by its citrus-like hop aroma and clean finish. It keeps a light, drinkable profile while still showing a mellow malt character, making it an easy choice in warmer weather. "Ongoing," on the other hand, is built around three hops and leans into a pleasant bitterness with a dry finish. It is a beer for people who want to compare aroma, bitterness, and aftertaste carefully.

What makes the pairing interesting is that both beers use the same hop varieties in different ways, creating clearly different impressions. A sensible flow would be to start with the cleaner, brighter "Shunkai" and move on to "Ongoing" for a more hop-forward finish.

Food service also includes the return of large fried chicken and jerk chicken. Spicy dishes alongside a crisp California Common or a hop-driven IPA should make for a satisfying tasting session. With its tucked-away second-floor location and relaxed atmosphere, this is the kind of place where beer drinkers can settle in and compare pours at their own pace.
