A beer project supporting Kumamoto farmers

Omi Beer has begun accepting preorders for a craft beer made with muscat grapes from Morita Farm in Hichō Town, Kumamoto, along with ingredients produced in the town.

The project began after the brewery learned that farmers in Kumamoto were facing difficult circumstances following the earthquake. Wanting to contribute in a way it could, Omi Beer decided to transform Kumamoto’s agricultural products into craft beer. The initiative is intended both to support producers and to introduce their ingredients to a wider audience.

Bringing muscat character into the glass

The featured ingredient is muscat from Morita Farm. In fruit beer, the key challenge is balancing the fruit’s aroma and acidity with the malt and hop profile. The fresh fragrance associated with muscat grapes gives drinkers another reason to look forward to the finished beer and discover how the fruit will express itself in a brewing context.

The official announcement provides details on the product and preorder process. By placing an order, drinkers can take part in a collaboration that connects Kumamoto farmers with a small brewery in Shiga.

A project suited to a small-batch brewery

Omi Beer is a nano-brewery in Otsu, Shiga. Alongside core beers such as Kojiale and Biwako IPA, it regularly produces limited beers using seasonal fruit and regional ingredients. Its small-batch approach allows the brewery to explore ingredients that might prompt the question, “Can this become beer?”

That experience makes the Kumamoto support beer a natural extension of Omi Beer’s work. More than a fruit-infused release, it is a beer that carries the story of the farmers and the region behind its ingredients. For beer lovers interested in local produce and experimental brewing, the preorder is an opportunity to taste Kumamoto’s muscat in a distinctly craft-beer form.
