A New Spice Collaboration from Miyoshi, Hiroshima Prefecture

On April 28, Hiroshima Now Brewery previewed the release of a chili beer in collaboration with Yoshioka Spice Research Institute. The post says the new product, created with Yoshioka Spice Research Institute in Shobara City, Hiroshima Prefecture, will arrive in late May.

Flavor Highlights

The characteristics highlighted in the post were:

- a moderate spiciness that pleasantly builds the more you drink
- not just hot, but with an astonishingly refreshing aftertaste
- easy to enjoy not only for people who like spicy food, but also for those who do not usually eat much spicy food
- the ability to customize the heat to suit your preferences

As a collaboration with a spice research institute, the design seems aimed at balancing the kick of chili peppers while avoiding drink fatigue.

The Brewery Context of Making the Most of Local Ingredients

Hiroshima Now Brewery is a small brewery based in Miyoshi City, Hiroshima Prefecture. On its official website, it promotes beer made in small batches of 50 to 150 liters, using adjuncts purchased directly from farmers and regional ingredients. Its emphasis on a light, food-friendly drinkability also fits this new release well.

This chili beer, too, can be seen not merely as a limited release but as a project that lets you taste the “flavor of the land” born from collaboration between local producers. It will be worth seeing how the character of Miyoshi City and Shobara City is expressed in a single glass.

Planned Sales

Sales are planned through Shobara Shuhan, Shobara DMO, or Hiroshima Now Brewery’s online shop. As early summer approaches, it looks like a beer that will be proposed as a craft brew with the kick of spices.
