Hoppukotan Brewing Introduces New Hop-Forward American IPA “Full Throttle”
Hoppukotan Brewing in Kamifurano, Hokkaido announced its new beer “Full Throttle” on Instagram. This is a beer that puts a firm bitterness and hop aroma front and center in true American IPA style, with an alcohol content of 6.0% and an IBU of 60. It is being introduced as a new release following last week’s “Ignition.”
Hoppukotan Brewing in Kamifurano, Hokkaido, announced its new beer “Full Throttle” on Instagram.
Under the slogan “FULL OF HOPPINESS.”, the brewery is rooted in Kamifurano, a town known as a hop-growing region. Its official website also shows that it offers a wide range of styles through its regular series, which use 100% hops grown in Kamifurano, as well as limited releases. This new beer clearly reflects that same stance of making hops the star.
“Full Throttle” is an American IPA. The ingredients are malt (produced overseas) and hops, and the specs are ABV 6.0% / IBU 60. In the brewer’s notes, the beer is described as being designed to bring out the character of the hops, blending Nelson Sauvin as the base with Zaapa, which has spicy, herbal, and tropical impressions, and then strengthening the aroma further with double dry hopping.
Its flavor direction is built around a fruity aroma reminiscent of white grapes, layered with herbal and tropical fruit notes. While the numbers alone suggest a solid bitterness, the post describes it as having a “sharp bitterness that hits harder than the numbers suggest,” so it seems to be an IPA that lets you enjoy a crisp finish and the distinct outline of hops.
The post also suggested comparing it with the Session IPL “Ignition” released last week. Compared with the easy-drinking Ignition, Full Throttle is positioned as a beer for enjoying deeper hop character. Depending on your mood or the occasion, choosing between the two should give you a sense of the range of hop expression that is so characteristic of Hoppukotan Brewing.
For sales, it is being announced that it should be available as early as this weekend at restaurants and liquor retailers nationwide, as well as at the brewery’s directly operated shop. It is a new release worth checking out for anyone looking for an American IPA that puts hop aroma front and center.
