Chuo Line Beer Works Newly Taps "Hassaku White" with Futako Beer Brewery
On April 25, Chuo Line Beer Works newly tapped its latest release, "Hassaku White," brewed with Futako Beer Brewery in Futakotamagawa. Based on a white ale, it is a fruit ale made with Kinokawa hassaku from Kinokawa City, Wakayama Prefecture, and has an alcohol content of 5.0%.
Chuo Line Beer Works is a brewery based in Koganei City, Tokyo, and the JR East Group's first directly operated craft beer brewery. Former station staff members work as brewers on product development, and its taproom under the elevated tracks offers a place to enjoy both the brewery's own beers and guest beers.
This time, the beer introduced on Instagram was "Hassaku White." It is a collaboration with Futako Beer Brewery in Futakotamagawa, and the style is a fruit ale with an ABV of 5.0%. Based on a white ale, it combines Kinokawa hassaku from Kinokawa City, Wakayama Prefecture, layering the soft mouthfeel of wheat malt with the refreshing peel-like character, subtle bitterness, and aroma derived from hassaku.
The post also revealed that the beer was brewed in partnership with Kinokawa City, Wakayama Prefecture, with the aim of raising awareness of Kinokawa hassaku, which boasts Japan's highest production volume of hassaku, and to help promote Hassaku Day on March 9, 2026. Another highlight is that a brewery grown along the Chuo Line has created a new pint by connecting with breweries and producers outside its own line.
Fruit ales made with seasonal citrus often show character through how the aroma opens up and how the drinking experience is designed. As a limited release with a different expression from Chuo Line Beer Works' regular lineup, it is worth paying attention not only to a pint at the taproom, but also to what comes next.
