A hop-driven “modified” edition

“Limited Edition Uchoten Aliens New World Hop” is the first limited release from the Uchoten Aliens series, jointly developed by Yoho Brewing and Seven-Eleven Japan. The 350ml cans began rolling out nationwide at Seven-Eleven stores on October 13 in limited quantities.

The beer is a hazy IPA with a 6.0% ABV. Its style is known for a hazy appearance, soft mouthfeel, restrained bitterness, and expressive hop character. The suggested retail price is ¥335 before tax, or ¥368.50 including tax.

Rather than changing the beer style, the brewers changed the hop profile. The original Uchoten Aliens uses American Idaho 7 hops to create a tropical character. This limited version centers on New Zealand Nelson Sauvin, chosen for aromas reminiscent of white grapes and white wine.

Brewer Ryota Ishihara says the team tested more than 30 hop blends before settling on the final recipe. The beer was designed with a clean finish so that its juicy hop aroma can come through clearly and directly.

A useful comparison with the original

Uchoten Aliens surpassed 1.1 million bottles shipped within three months of its 2025 launch. Its appeal lies in offering a hazy IPA, a style quite different from mainstream lagers, through an accessible convenience-store format.

The limited edition’s emerald-green package depicts the series’ alien character venturing into a “new world,” referencing the New World hops used in the recipe.

The draft version began limited service on October 7 at all six YONA YONA BEER WORKS locations and YONA YONA TOKYO BREWERY. Comparing it with the original should make the effect of different hop varieties especially easy to appreciate.

Based in Miyota, Nagano, Yoho Brewing is known for craft beers including Yona Yona Ale. This release offers another approachable way to experience the range and depth of hop-driven beer.
