What kind of brewery is Shiranui Sea Romantic Beer?
Hop Bro
Do you know Fukuda Farm in Minamata, Kumamoto? It’s a sightseeing farm on a hill overlooking the Shiranui Sea, and they brew beer inside the Spanish-style restaurant called the Sevilla-kan.
Mugi
What, they brew beer in a Spanish-style restaurant?!
Hop Bro
It’s a farm with a theme called "Yunoko Spain Village," set in a location with sweeping views of the Shiranui Sea and sweet summer orange orchards. You can see the brewing equipment through the glass from the restaurant and drink it fresh on the spot. They’ve been brewing since 1997, so they’re a veteran from the early days of Japanese craft beer.
Mugi
Fresh beer while looking out at the sea?! That sounds amazing. So, what kinds of beer do they have?
Hop Bro
They have three classics. "Carmen" is an amber ale at 5.0% ABV, with a strong hop aroma and bitterness. The name sounds Spanish, too, right?
Mugi
Carmen! Since it’s Spain Village, the names are in Spanish. Stylish.
Hop Bro
"Soleil" is a weissbier at 4.0% ABV, with a light, easy-drinking profile that pairs well with meals. And the one I want to recommend is "C’est la Vie," a honey beer. It’s 5.0% ABV, and they use Kumamoto-grown honey to give it a mellow sweetness.
Mugi
What is that! A beer with Kumamoto honey? And "C’est la Vie" means "that’s life" in French, right? The naming sense is lovely too.
Hop Bro
The malt is a blend of several types with different colors and aromas, and they brew it using hops selected from three varieties to suit Japanese tastes. Because it’s a farm, you can enjoy a beer experience that’s integrated with food.
Mugi
Beer with honey while looking out over the Shiranui Sea... I definitely want to go! Minamata feels like a hidden gem, and that makes it seem like you can have a truly special experience there.
