Toyfull Brewery

Toyfull Brewery is Kurume's first microbrewery, and the thing is, it's not just a beer shop. The company founded by representative Masaki Yamashita also runs an education business, and they brew beer under the philosophy of "connecting people's bonds."

They also work with employment support facilities for people with disabilities, so it's interesting that they are conscious of contributing to society through brewing too. What's more, they use ingredients grown by Kurume farmers in their dishes, and they brew local herbs and fruits into their beer, involving the whole region.

Their four core beers are especially interesting. HELLO is a pale ale and a great entry point with its refreshing hop character. PUNKY is an IPA. GREEN APPLE is a fruity ale with apple flavor and an easy-drinking 4% ABV. And CHOCOLAT ORANGE is a fruit stout, a dessert-like dark beer that combines orange and chocolate.

And the one to watch is ROSEMARY IPA. It's like the culmination of their beer-making with local herbs, and it won gold at JGBA 2026. They also took home bronze medals for two beers at IBC 2025, so this is a brewery that really goes all-in on competitions.

The ingredients are malt from the UK, hops from the U.S. and New Zealand, and brewing water from Kurume. Inside, there are seven draft taps, and the attached restaurant offers pairings with international cuisine. I love their attitude of "brewing one-of-a-kind beers that can only be made here."
