Fukuhaku Brewery

There’s a brewery called FUKUHAKU BREWERY in Miyawaka City, Fukuoka, and its origin story is incredibly interesting.

Here’s the twist: the founder, Hiroshi Sekinoue, is the president of a roof tile company called Fukuha Tile Industry. He built the brewery right on the company premises.

He has long loved craft beer, and with support from a craft beer expert from the United States, he launched the brewery. The brand name is the "PROUST" series, inspired by the Proust effect, the phenomenon where a scent brings back memories.

They offer three varieties: "PROUST Saison" has a refreshing citrusy tartness, "PROUST NEIPA" is mellow with a vibrant tropical-fruit character, and "PROUST West Coast IPA" is dry and crisp, finished with five kinds of hops. The most popular one is the NEIPA.

You can see the brewing tanks from the taproom windows. Look outside and you’ll see the Inunaki River flowing, with Mt. Rokkogatake rising beyond the fields. They brew with Miyawaka water and American hops, and the name "Proust" reflects their desire to make beer rich in aroma.
